Eileen Lee has a textile background working with Levi Strauss & Co. for eighteen years where she was responsible for product development, design and merchandising. MeadowFarm Yarn Studio in Nevada City, California, is where she has been after that for eleven years, managing the shop, teaching knitting, weaving, spinning, dyeing and creating knitting patterns. She now has a studio near her home where she teaches all of the above classes. She is published in several magazines including Knitting Traditions, The Unofficial Downton Abbey Knits, and PieceWork. Her patterns and products for sale are available on her website, Ravelry (mzfiber) and Etsy. She lives in Grass Valley with her husband Bill, son Eric and dachshund Lizy.
Weaving classes - Learn how to plan your project, warp and start weaving on a four shaft floor or table loom. For the floor looms, I can come to your house. If needed the table looms are available to rent. Rigid Heddle Weaving classes are also available and looms can be purchased. Spinning classes Spinning is a practical and creatively satisfying hobby with continuing appeal, especially in this age of mass production. Once you learn this skill, it is very relaxing and creative. In this class, you will be introduced to the basic spinning steps to creating a continuous yarn.
All types of knitting classes are available from beginning knitting, to socks, hats, lace, cables, sweaters, colour work, felting, holiday items, and many, many more. There are drop in Classes for when you are stuck on a project and need some quick attention. There are a lot of free knit days that are very nice. There is a lot of sharing of ideas, great stories, good conversation and plenty of laughter. Workshops are available including "Change your gauge numbers, and you can create your own pattern" and "design your own socks".
I’m starting a new shawl where I first painted the rayon/cotton warp. There are three painted and one solid warp. I plan to stripe up and then weave using a very thin weft yarn so the project will be warped faced. The set is 24 epi. We’ll see the progress together. Looks like a mess right now, but it will all work out
I wove a prayer shawl for a dear friend who is very, very sick. She tends to like natural colours so we have a black, brown, moss green, ecru and a dark purple. It is a colour block twill.
A perfect rainy day for learning how to weave. Becky and Carol were taught how to weave today. There projects are great! It is so much fun to see the excitement of people learning a new skill.
Tonight I had three brand new knitters in my class. I showed them the two knitting styles of English and Continental and the pros and cons between the two. They decided on Continental. It was a great class. They were so excited! They want to knit everything I have in the studio. Wrongly, I think sometimes every body knows how to knit. Then I have this opportunity to teach these brand new knitters and then realize there is still people out there who do not know this fabulous craft.
I went Stitches with Sierra and Jeanne, stayed overnight and it was so much fun. Weaving was everywhere at the show, especially rigid heddle. I bought some yarn for weaving. I hope to weave these projects up and students can purchase them on line. This is a picture of a weaving kit from the Purlescence Yarns booth located in Sunnyvale, CA. The yarn company is called Lunatic Fringe Yarns. This can be done on a rigid heddle or floor loom. I can’t wait to get started.
I also purchased a great book called weave-knit-wear by Judith Shangold. If there are weavers out there that want to make clothes, you will love this book.
While there, I met Stephen West, Anna Zilboorg and Alastair Post-Quinn (taught me double knitting).

Erma is weaving some kitchen towels for her grand daughter. She is on a roll now. The loom she just purchased is a 25″ Flip Schacht Rigid Heddle Loom. 
Today I had the privilege of spending a wonderful morning with Dee Jones. She instructed us on “How to Sew with Handwoven. As most of you know, she has a wealth of information. Thank you, Dee, for a perfectly delightful morning and the inspiration you have given me.

Jeanne is very gracious to offer her house on Tuesday mornings for social knitting gatherings. February 3 was our first meeting for the NC Knitters. It was so much fun sharing knitting and weaving. There was plenty of inspiring conversation. Just the other day, I read this story about social knitting. This article was about the significance of social knitting in the rural Welsh knitters life:
“The knitting night was an important social event in eighteenth century Wales and well into the nineteenth century. The party was often held on moonlit nights with special treats provided by the hostess. The ladies usually arrived first and the young men followed later. All the ladies would work on their knitting; some of the men would knit garters. Both written and oral accounts show that not much work was really accomplished during these evenings – stories were told and stitches were dropped as teasing lads pull out needles. Good storytellers were always welcome at these gatherings, especially if they told ghost stories, which made the ladies nervous and unwilling to walk home without a male escort (from Minwel Tibbott’s Knitting Stockings in Wales). “
My thought about this, if he values his life, my husband would never think of pulling out my needles!
