Have you been knitting for a long time and have a sizable amount of stash yarn? Will I ever knit all this? Believe me, you are not alone. Weaving might be the answer for you.
The Rigid Heddle Loom is simple and fun. It is a much less complicated way of weaving using your knitting yarns (your stash) for all your projects. Weave on a loom from the studio. Bring your stash yarns. Rental of the loom $35/month
Learn how to plan your project, warp and start weaving. I can come to your home.
Beginning Weaving on a 4 or 8 Shaft Table Loom – $20/hour
Learn how to plan your project, warp and start weaving. You can go home with a table loom renting at $35/month.
Learn the basic techniques of this very old form of woven textiles. Once you experience the pleasure of weaving your first simple piece, you will be inspired to go on to create your own designs. The basic techniques are common and all you need is a frame or simple loom. I use a rigid heddle loom. The class takes approximately 3-4 hours.
Rigid Heddle Weaving using two heddles – $65
For fabrics woven with fine threads, you can use two 10 dent reeds to weave 20 ends per inch. Likewise, with two 12 dent reeds you can weave as fine as 24 ends per inch. It is easier than you might think.
Double weave is one of the best reasons to use two heddles on the rigid heddle loom With a second heddle and a little knowledge, you can weave fabric twice as wide as your loom’s weaving width.
Hand Manipulated Weaves – $65 – 5 hours
This class takes approximately 5 hours – Call for an appointment. Hand controlled weaves are very versatile and effective. Because you can add finger-controlled weaves anywhere, anytime, they are a great resource to tuck into your bag of weaving tricks. Add a highlight, accent or special border to your projects. You can plan an entire project using these special finger techniques. Two shafts are required – all looms will work including the rigid heddle. A beautiful sampler table runner will be the project.
Spinning is a practical and creatively satisfying hobby with continuing appeal, especially in this age of mass production. Once you learn the skill, it is a very relaxing and creative. In this class, you will be introduced to the basic spinning steps to create a continuous yarn.
